Blessed John Henry Newman
John Henry Newman (born in 1801, London) was first an Anglican priest and later a Catholic Priest. Newman founded the Birmingham Oratory in 1849 and also helped establish University College Dublin in 1851.
Due to his extraordinary work and devotion, Pope Leo XIII made John Henry Newman a Cardinal in 1979.
John Henry Newman died in 1890 at the age of 89. In 1991, Newman was proclaimed venerable by Pope John Paul II. Newman’s canonisation was authorised by Pope Francis in July 2019 and the canonisation ceremony will take place on Sunday, 13th October 2019.
